No Place to Hide for Sinar Mas APP: its devastation of the country’s natural forest is clear and present and for everybody to see

Jakarta, Indonesia – Sinar Mas Group’s Asia Pulp & Paper (SMG/APP) attempted to give itself a clean bill of health last week by covering up its forest destruction in an ‘assured’ long winded report. But there is no place to hide for this company.  Satellites images have been capturing and documenting every single hectare that the company has destroyed for years.

PEKANBARU (EoF News)— An 18 year-old rubber farmer was killed by Sumatran tiger (panthera tigris Sumatrae) last week, Monday (9 August 2010), and the location of deadly human-tiger conflict was only 1,8 kilometer away from PT Ruas Utama Jaya’s pulpwood concession, a pulpwood supplier of Asia Pulp & Paper (APP).

PEKANBARU (EoF News)— Siak District Head, who named suspect last year of corruption allegation in issuing pulpwood plantation licenses, did not attend the summon of his case at Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Office in Jakarta on Wednesday.  

PEKANBARU (EoF News)—Scores of environmental organizations in Europe mainly have sent an open letter to “inform as many buyers in Europe as possible of the reality behind APP’s claims of sustainability.”
