JIKALAHARI Investigative Report April 2006 (May 31)--Kampar Peninsula natural forest area in Palalawan and Siak District of Riau Province, Sumatra, is the largest remaining natural forest area in Riau, with an area of 447,000 ha.
This area is persued by PT. RAPP of Asia Pacific Resource International Holdings (APRIL) and PT.IKPP of Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) to fulfill their need for raw material. According to Jikalahari reserach, more than 10 companies have permits for industrial timber plantation as partner of APRIL and APP and are now exploiting the natural forests in Kampar Peninsula. Two of them are PT.Madukoro and CV.
